        "content": "<p>All ASEAN member countries are committed to completing all\nsubstantive negotiations at the 21st (final) round in May 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga\nHartarto stated that ASEAN member countries have agreed on the\ncompletion of negotiations for the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework\nAgreement (DEFA) during the 27th ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Council\n(AECC) Meeting in Cebu, Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>From this agreement, the regional digital economy framework is\ntargeted to be signed in November 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll ASEAN member countries are committed to completing all\nsubstantive negotiations at the 21st (final) round in May 2026, based on\nthe AECC agreement in Cebu. Our firm target is that the signing of the\nDEFA agreement must be carried out in November this year (ASEAN Summit),\nafter going through the legal scrubbing process and domestic\nconsultations in each country,\u201d Airlangga said in his statement in\nJakarta on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>On that occasion, Airlangga explained that the current development of\nthe digital economy is very dynamic and must be responded to wisely by\nASEAN.<\/p>\n<p>After signing, the ratification process by each ASEAN member country\nis targeted to be completed within 180 days. This reflects the urgency\nand collective commitment to quickly realise the benefits of DEFA for\nthe region.<\/p>\n<p>For Indonesia, DEFA aligns with the implementation of the National\nDigital Economy Strategy 2030 and supports OECD accession, which\nincludes strengthening digital infrastructure, developing digital human\nresources, transforming SMEs, and enhancing cyber security\nregulations.<\/p>\n<p>Through DEFA, Indonesia can strengthen policies based on\ninternational practices, attract investment in high-tech sectors,\nstrengthen national data sovereignty, and build an inclusive and\ncompetitive digital ecosystem, including for SMEs.<\/p>\n<p>ASEAN is taking a major step through the ASEAN DEFA initiative, which\nwas initiated during Indonesia\u2019s 2023 Chairmanship.<\/p>\n<p>As the world\u2019s first comprehensive regional digital economy\nframework, DEFA is expected to be the main driver of ASEAN digital\neconomic integration while strengthening the region\u2019s position as a\nglobal digital centre.<\/p>\n<p>Based on a BCG study, a comprehensive DEFA agreement could increase\nASEAN\u2019s digital economy value from $1 trillion to $2 trillion by\n2030.<\/p>",
