        "content": "<p>ASEAN sets out to plot security<\/p>\n<p>SINGAPORE (AFP): Top officials of the Association of Southeast<br>\nAsian Nations (ASEAN) yesterday set out to plot a framework to<br>\nenhance regional security, and discuss dates for a summit of<br>\nAsian and European leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Kamil Jaafar, secretary-general of Malaysia's foreign<br>\nministry, said ASEAN's senior officials would draw up a list of<br>\nparticipants and possible dates for the Asia-EU summit, expected<br>\nto be held early next year.<\/p>\n<p>Thailand has agreed to host the summit, proposed by Singapore<br>\nPrime Minister Goh Chok Tong during his visit to France in<br>\nOctober, Kamil said.<\/p>\n<p>He is leading a Malaysian delegation to the three-day meeting<br>\non Singapore's Sentosa Island resort. Brunei is chairing the<br>\ntalks.<\/p>\n<p>Officials would also plough through proposed \"confidence-<br>\nbuilding\" measures for the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), to work<br>\nout a framework agreeable to all in ASEAN before taking it up<br>\nwith the world's major powers.<\/p>",
