        "content": "<p>ASEAN security 'not strong enough'<\/p>\n<p>MANILA (AFP): Increasing armed conflict in the Korean<br>\npeninsula and between India and Pakistan are \"too big\" to handle<br>\nfor Asia's foremost security forum, the Philippine's foreign<br>\nminister said on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Foreign affairs secretary Domingo Siazon said the Association<br>\nof Southeast Asian Nations Regional Forum (ARF) needed more time<br>\nto develop into a security alliance similar to that of the North<br>\nAtlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) before it can immediately<br>\nintervene in crises.<\/p>\n<p>Clashes between India and Pakistan over Kashmir as well as the<br>\nrecent naval confrontation between South and North Korea are \"too<br>\nbig\" and \"too advanced\" for the ARF to handle \"right now\".<\/p>\n<p>ARF, created in 1995, comprises the 10 ASEAN members and their<br>\n\"dialog partners\" -- the United States, Canada, China, Japan,<br>\nAustralia, New Zealand, the European Union, Russia, India and<br>\nSouth Korea. ASEAN groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos,<br>\nMalaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and<br>\nVietnam.<\/p>",
