        "content": "<p>ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn has affirmed his support for\ncollaboration with Canada to optimise the energy transition and achieve\nenergy security in Southeast Asia. \u201cWith the strengths of both, real\nopportunities will emerge to advance energy security and decarbonisation\ntogether as economies and prosperity grow,\u201d Kao said during the\nASEAN-Canada strategic dialogue on energy security in Jakarta on\nTuesday. He stated that ASEAN is one of the most dynamic markets for\nenergy investment and innovation in the world, given that the region\u2019s\ngrowing economic strength will be accompanied by increasingly high\nenergy demand. Meanwhile, Canada has advantages in conventional and\nclean energy such as oil and gas, LNG, hydrogen, critical minerals, as\nwell as clean energy and electricity innovation, the ASEAN\nSecretary-General said. The Secretary-General noted that energy security\nand the renewable energy transition are becoming increasingly urgent\namid the conflict in the Middle East, which has resulted in supply chain\ndisruptions and shocks in international markets. To achieve energy\nsecurity, ASEAN needs to diversify its energy sources, supply chains,\nand technologies, by strengthening partnerships both among fellow ASEAN\nmember states and with external partners, he said. Moreover, the\ncomprehensive effort to realise energy security and the energy\ntransition through various approaches \u201crequires investment that cannot\nbe undertaken by just one country alone\u201d. Kao also confirmed that ASEAN\nand Canada have established cooperation in the energy transition,\nincluding industrial decarbonisation and carbon capture and storage.\n\u201cOur opportunity now is not only to undertake the energy transition, but\nto ensure that the region\u2019s energy remains secure, affordable, reliable,\nand increasingly sustainable,\u201d Kao concluded. On the same occasion,\nWeldon Epp, Assistant Deputy Minister for Indo-Pacific Affairs at Global\nAffairs Canada, mentioned that his side has contributed millions of\ndollars to support the energy transition in ASEAN. Through the\nASEAN-Canada Trust Fund, Canada has contributed to a project related to\ncarbon capture and utilisation valued at 1.38 million Canadian dollars\ntogether with the ASEAN Centre for Energy. Meanwhile, a contribution of\n2 million Canadian dollars has also been provided for the Regional\nConnectivity Fund (RCF), a joint initiative with the Asian Development\nBank (ADB) to ensure the sustainability of power grid system projects in\nASEAN, he said.<\/p>",
