        "content": "<p>ASEAN calls off meeting<\/p>\n<p>BANGKOK (AFP): The Association of Southeast Asian Nations<br>\n(ASEAN) has called off an informal meeting with economic partners<br>\nJapan, South Korea and China that had been set for later this<br>\nmonth, a news report said.<\/p>\n<p>Host Thailand informed the other nations of the postponement<br>\nthis week, saying \"some countries which were invited to come are<br>\nnot ready to attend,\" the Bangkok Post quoted a diplomatic source<br>\nas saying Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>But Thailand reiterated its readiness to host the meeting at a<br>\nlater date, the report said.<\/p>\n<p>ASEAN groups Thailand with Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia,<br>\nBrunei and the Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>Malaysia's proposal for an East Asia Economic Caucus (EAEC)<br>\nwould expand that group to include Japan, South Korea and China.<\/p>\n<p>ASEAN economic ministers are to meet from April 25 on the<br>\nsouthern Thai resort island of Phuket. An informal of the<br>\nproposed EAEC was to have been held during the ASEAN conference.<\/p>",
