        "content": "<p>ASEAN agrees to introduce EHIA<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (DPA): Five ASEAN member countries have agreed in<br>\nprinciple to introduce the Environmental Health Impact Assessment<br>\n(EHIA) to evaluate all approved development projects in view of<br>\ndevelopment that can result in pollution.<\/p>\n<p>In the final recommendations released yesterday, conference<br>\nchairman Wan Mahmud Othman said the EHIA, which is in existence<br>\nas an international standard, must be adopted to safeguard public<br>\nhealth from the peril of rapid development.<\/p>\n<p>The five-point recommendations on environmental health were<br>\nmade at the conclusion of the fifth Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-<br>\nSingapore-Thailand Border Health Conference.<\/p>\n<p>The EHIA is an accredited tool given to support or disapprove<br>\nof development projects with the importance placed on health,<br>\nsimilar to the Environment Impact Assessment which focuses on the<br>\nenvironment as a whole.<\/p>",
