PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) has stated that a fire incident\ninvolving one of its vessels at Ketapang Port, Banyuwangi Regency, East\nJava, has not impacted the flow of holiday travellers from Bali.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are ensuring that ferry operations at Ketapang Port, which\nconnects to Gilimanuk Port in Bali, continue to run normally,\u201d said\nCorporate Secretary of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) Windy Andale in\na press statement on Thursday.<\/p>\n
He said the fire that broke out in one compartment of the KMP\nPortlink VII on Wednesday night (11 March) resulted in no\nfatalities.<\/p>\n
He noted that the vessel in question is currently undergoing further\ninspection to ensure its readiness before resuming operations.<\/p>\n
According to him, the fire occurred in the right-side passenger deck\narea at the rear of the vessel during a loading process. \u201cCrew members\nwho became aware of the incident immediately took initial action using\nportable fire extinguishers (APAR). The response was then reinforced by\nan onshore emergency response team using fresh water hydrants until the\nfire was extinguished at 20:35 local time,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
During the handling of the burning vessel, vehicle traffic continued\nto flow smoothly with no vehicles waiting more than one hour in the\nKetapang Port area.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe remain committed to maintaining operational safety standards\nacross all our ferry services,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
On Thursday afternoon at Gilimanuk Port in Bali, holiday travellers\nbegan arriving in larger numbers, with two-wheeled vehicles moving\nrelatively smoothly. Private cars and trucks were congested from the\nparking area through to the entrance of Gilimanuk Port.
