PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) says its response to the fire\naboard the KMP Batumandi in waters near Merak Port on Tuesday (20\nOctober 2026) is continuing after the blaze was extinguished at 9.02 pm\nlocal time. Ferry services are being closely monitored to ensure\npassenger safety. ASDP President Director Heru Widodo said all\npassengers and crew had been evacuated, and no fatalities had been\nreported.<\/p>\n
\u201cASDP is continuing its post-incident response in coordination with\njoint response teams and relevant agencies. This includes monitoring\npassengers\u2019 condition, facilitating their return journeys and monitoring\nMerak\u2013Bakauheni ferry operations,\u201d Heru said in a written statement in\nJakarta on Wednesday (21 October 2026).<\/p>\n
Heru said the company was continuing to coordinate with all relevant\nparties to ensure the response proceeded properly, particularly in\nmeeting passengers\u2019 needs after the evacuation. He thanked the joint\nteams for their swift work and coordination at the scene.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur focus now is to ensure passengers who need assistance receive\nappropriate support, while coordinating all follow-up measures with the\nrelevant authorities,\u201d Heru said.<\/p>\n
Some passengers received medical treatment at KS Hospital and Merak\nCommunity Health Centre, Heru added. ASDP is coordinating with\nhealthcare facilities to monitor their condition and ensure their\nmedical needs are met.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor passengers who have been discharged, ASDP is also facilitating\ntheir return journeys to ensure they can travel back safely and\nsmoothly,\u201d Heru said.<\/p>\n
The company has also set up coordination posts in Merak and Bakauheni\nto support the response and provide information. The posts are intended\nto facilitate coordination between parties, monitor passengers\u2019 needs\nand ensure updates to the public are based on verified information.<\/p>\n
ASDP Corporate Secretary Windy Andale said the company was also\nmonitoring Merak\u2013Bakauheni operations to anticipate any impact on\nservices. Coordination with relevant parties would ensure any\noperational adjustments reflected conditions on the ground, while taking\naccount of passengers\u2019 safety and comfort.<\/p>\n
