        "content": "<p>The Middle East conflict is beginning to affect living costs in\nvarious Asian countries, including Thailand. Rising energy prices and\ndisruptions to global supply chains are putting pressure on the prices\nof basic necessities.<\/p>\n<p>Thailand, which is set to become Southeast Asia\u2019s second-largest\neconomy in early 2026, is now accelerating its programme to distribute\naffordable goods to curb the surge in living costs.<\/p>\n<p>The Provincial Administration Department under Thailand\u2019s Ministry of\nInterior has instructed provincial and district officials nationwide to\nsupport the operation of 3,800 mobile \u201cPum-Puang\u201d vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>These vehicles are used to sell basic necessities at lower prices in\nvarious regions, particularly remote areas that are difficult to reach\nby traditional markets or fixed outlets.<\/p>\n<p>This initiative is part of the Thai Ministry of Commerce\u2019s programme\nto expand public access to affordable basic goods.<\/p>\n<p>Thailand\u2019s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, Suphajee\nSuthumpun, stated that this policy results from coordination between the\nMinistry of Commerce, the Ministry of Interior, and several other state\nagencies.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the Pum-Puang vehicles, Thailand is expanding the\n\u201cBlue Flag\u201d or Thong Fah programme, which consists of discount markets\nproviding various basic necessities at reduced prices.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Commerce previously announced it would hold 518 Blue\nFlag events nationwide from April to August 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe programme consists of 12 large exhibitions with 200 stalls each,\n76 medium-scale events with 50 stalls, 380 small activities in various\nprovinces, and 50 additional events in various Bangkok districts,\u201d\naccording to a VN Express report on Thursday, 23 April 2026.<\/p>\n<p>More than 5,000 mobile sales units will also be deployed, including\nstreet vendors, Pum-Puang trucks, and mobile Blue Flag vehicles through\nexisting local networks.<\/p>\n<p>The government is still recruiting more operators to meet the target\nof 3,800 active vehicles, while district heads are asked to accelerate\nthe programme\u2019s implementation.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to curbing the prices of basic necessities, Thailand is\npreparing a low-interest loan scheme for farmers affected by rising\nproduction costs.<\/p>\n<p>The cabinet has approved the \u201cco-payment interest\u201d loan programme\nwith a budget of 30 billion baht, or approximately US$935.1 million,\nequivalent to Rp15.9 trillion.<\/p>",
