The blossoming of local TV films (sinetron) on private
\nchannels has viewers nailed to their seats in admiration of
\ntheir favorite stars. Viewers are captivated by the extraordinary
\nblend of emotion and action. But do sinetron viewers know how
\nsinetron productions are made? They know very little, and
\nprobably don't care that much as long as their favorite star
\nmakes an appearance.<\/p>\n
I felt insulted as an artist when I came face to face with an
\narrogant director. After 55 working hours and four full working
\ndays, I was only called once for shooting. In that time, no meal
\nor transportation allowance was provided until we returned to
\nJakarta. Only four days after the movie Si Kucing Kucing Hitam
\n(black cats), episode 19 titled Retak II was shown, did they pay
\nmy fee, a measly Rp 162,500.<\/p>\n
Is that the artistic value of Indonesian sinetron? Why are TV
\nartists insulted and then dismissed by an arrogant director
\ninstead of being appreciated? Is it no longer necessary to look
\nfor artistic values in sinetron productions? Or do we require
\nartistic management? It all depends on the sinetron producers,
\nbut do not confuse artists with construction workers.<\/p>\n
If PT Myriad Communications could afford a daily leasing fee
\nof US$700 (Rp 1.6 million) for a shooting location, why is the
\ncrew so badly paid?<\/p>\n
I would like to ask how they tally working hours and how
\n\"minor\" jobs are evaluated? Is every production house paying its
\nartists like PT Miryad Communications paid me?<\/p>\n
I hope other artists do not have to share my experience.
