Jakarta (ANTARA) - Puteri Indonesia 2004 Artika Sari Devi believes\nthat character formation is a primary aspect that needs attention in\nchildren\u2019s education alongside academic achievement, so collaboration\nbetween parents and schools is needed to support children\u2019s development\nin a holistic manner.<\/p>\n
\u201cChildren not only learn to respect themselves, but also to respect\nothers. Empathy is a value we look for,\u201d said Artika at the launch of\nthe new identity of Veritas Intercultural School (VIS), held in\nconjunction with National Children\u2019s Day commemorations in Jakarta on\nThursday.<\/p>\n
The star of the film \u201cDia Bukan Ibu\u201d said that the school\u2019s\ninvolvement in supporting each child\u2019s development means parents are not\nsimply dropping their children off, but becoming part of the educational\nprocess.<\/p>\n
According to her, schools also need to provide space for children to\ndevelop their potential according to their interests.<\/p>\n
\u201cChildren possess diverse intelligences. Not only academic, but also\nthe arts, sport, languages, and other fields. That is what we value\nabout the school,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, Artika acknowledged that raising Generation Alpha\nhas become increasingly challenging because children are growing up\nalongside digital technology. According to her, parents need to be good\nlisteners whilst also setting clear boundaries on the use of\ntechnology.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Head of Veritas Intercultural School Lauren Sarinah said\nthat the school\u2019s task is not only to provide academic learning, but\nalso to prepare children for life through the strengthening of\ncharacter, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur hope is that we can work together with parents to ensure the\nsuccess of our children, not only in academics, but also in their\nlives,\u201d said Lauren.<\/p>\n
She explained that VIS, which has been established for 25 years, has\nnow adopted the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework to develop\nacademic abilities whilst shaping learners capable of solving real-life\nproblems.<\/p>\n
