Art of weaving plastic tarps<\/p>\n
We may be familiar with the use of plastic tarpaulins as
\nshelters, especially during neighborhood wedding receptions or
\nwhile eating lunch at a dusty sidewalk stall. Plastic tarps are a
\nfavorite among sidewalk vendors or as refugee shelters after
\ndisasters.<\/p>\n
Many people assume that these tarps are imported products.
\nThey are wrong.<\/p>\n
Here, in a corner of the Cibubur district in East Jakarta, a
\nfactory has been producing plastic tarpaulins for years. The
\nfactory produces tons of them for domestic and foreign markets.<\/p>\n
The production process here starts by placing the plastic
\n\"seeds\" into a machine which later transforms them into threads.
\nThe threads are then woven together for the final product.<\/p>\n
The process requires skilled workers with a high discipline to
