Arriving home, Zarina faces three charges<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Zarina returned from the United States yesterday
\nto face two other minor charges besides the one on trafficking in
\nEcstasy: forging immigration documents, and attempting to smuggle
\nsharp weapons, police said.<\/p>\n
The first investigation, by immigration officials, began only
\na few hours after her arrival from a long flight from Houston.<\/p>\n
\"Doctors confirmed that she's fit to undergo interrogation,\"
\nJakarta Police Chief Maj. Gen. Hamami Nata told reporters at his
\noffice, where the TV actress is being detained.<\/p>\n
\"Today, Zarina is being questioned by immigration officials
\nabout the immigration papers she used to go abroad,\" Hamami said.<\/p>\n
Iman Santoso from Jakarta immigration office said he had no
\nidea which immigration rules had been violated.<\/p>\n
\"We're still waiting for the result of the questioning; how
\ndid she leave the country, what documents she used, and who
\nhelped her,\" Iman said at the news conference.<\/p>\n
The third charge related to a Bernett crossbow and three
\narrows which she brought with her from the Netherlands, without
\nnecessary papers, two months before her widely publicized arrest
\nfollowing the discovery of 29,677 Ecstasy pills at her home.<\/p>\n
Agus Wisnu, a customs officer at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport,
\nsaid investigation into the origin of the bow was interrupted
\nbecause of her Ecstasy case. \"During our short questioning,
\nZarina said she had bought the goods for hunting,\" Agus said.<\/p>\n
If found guilty of attempting to smuggle a sharp weapon,
\nZarina could face a maximum penalty of seven years in jail, he
\nadded.<\/p>\n
Lawyers earlier said she faces a maximum of 15 years
\nimprisonment if convicted for distributing dangerous drugs, the
\ncharge police plan to pin on her for the 29,677 Ecstasy pills.<\/p>\n
Police made no mention of pressing charges for duping her
\narresting officer and escaping custody.<\/p>\n
Hamami promised a swift investigation for all three cases.<\/p>\n
\"We want all the dossiers for the three cases to be completed
\nas soon as possible,\" he said. \"Zarina's relatives and friends,
\nwho might have helped her escape, will be questioned later.\"<\/p>\n
Five police officers who hunted Zarina all the way to her
\nhiding place in Houston, will receive special awards tomorrow.
\nThe five are Lt. Col. Gories Mere, Lt. Col. Bakat Purwanto, Maj.
\nCarlo Tewu, Capt. Tomy Watulu and First Sergeant Vivi Cangkung.<\/p>\n
Zarina's lawyer Amir Syamsuddin, who accompanied Zarina on the
\nflight home, appealed to the media not to condemn his client
\nahead of the trial.<\/p>\n
Amir said the media have \"already passed judgment\" on Zarina,
\nAntara reported.<\/p>\n
Zarina's brother, Julian Zulfikar, urged that his sister be
\ngiven a fair investigation and a fair trial.<\/p>\n
Julian, who was among the crowd at the Soekarno-Hatta airport
\nawaiting for her return yesterday, said the family was relieved
\nthat Zarina's days as a fugitive were finally over.<\/p>\n
Zarina phoned home before boarding the flight for Jakarta,
\nasking for the family's blessings, he said. \"She was sad, and she
\ncried, because although officially her status is a suspect, she
\nhas already been treated like that (a criminal).\"<\/p>\n
He also stressed that Zarina surrendered voluntarily and was
