Arrested students on hunger strike<\/p>\n
JAMBI: Four university students held at the provincial police
\nheadquarters for their alleged role in the attack and damage of
\nJambi's gubernatorial office last month have gone on a hunger
\nstrike to protest their arrest.<\/p>\n
One of the student activists, Yosep Askan from STMIK
\n(management and computer college), was taken to a police hospital
\nafter his condition deteriorated.<\/p>\n
The other three were identified as Mardiansyah from Bungo Tebo
\nstudent association and M. Amin Taufik and Muhammadiyah F.H.,
\nboth from the University of Jambi.<\/p>\n
Mawardi, a member of the All-Jambi University Student Senate,
\nsaid on Thursday his colleagues were apprehended on May 27 as
\nthey -- along with hundreds of other students -- staged a rally
\nin front of the office of Governor Abdurrahman Sayoeti.<\/p>\n
The students -- who were protesting the administration's lack
\nof attention toward the fate of local residents working as casual
\nworkers overseas -- demanded a meeting with Sayoeti, but were
\nblocked by the governor's staff.<\/p>\n
After a heated argument, the two parties then pelted stones at
\neach other, which damaged several parts of the governor's
\noffice, Antara reported.<\/p>",
