Army warned against logging<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Army Chief of Staff Gen. Endriartono Sutarto on
\nThursday said he has ordered regional military commanders in
\nKalimantan provinces to take firm action against their personnel
\nfound guilty of involvement in illegal logging.<\/p>\n
\"I have warned the local military commanders in Kalimantan to
\nstrictly supervise their subordinates in order not to be involved
\nin illegal logging,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Speaking to journalists in Jakarta, Endriartono said he was
\ntotally against any involvement by Army personnel because such a
\ncrime caused losses to the state and damaged the environment.<\/p>\n
\"If there is an indication that Army officers are involved,
\nthey will be subject to administrative and legal sanctions,\" he
\nadded.<\/p>\n
Endriartono said he had also ordered all the local Army chiefs
\nto help police and other security forces prevent illegal logging
\nfrom recurring in Kalimantan. \"The Army is ready to provide
