        "content": "<p>Jayapura, VIVA \u2014 A post belonging to PT Kristalin located in Makimi,\nNabire Regency, Central Papua, was attacked by an armed criminal group\n(KKB) led by Aibon Kogoya. Two people were killed in the incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is confirmed that the KKB carried out an attack on a post\nbelonging to PT Kristalin, which operates in gold mining, resulting in\ntwo people killed by burning,\u201d said Nabire Police Chief Adjunct Senior\nCommissioner Samuel Tatiratu on Saturday, 21 February 2026.<\/p>\n<p>He acknowledged that his office had not yet been able to determine\nwhether the victims were civilians or security personnel due to the\nseverely damaged condition of the remains.<\/p>\n<p>The attack was reported to have occurred at approximately 15:00\nEastern Indonesia Time, and a team from Nabire immediately proceeded to\nthe scene, a journey of approximately one hour by four-wheeled\nvehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Upon arriving at the scene, Samuel said, team members immediately\nsecured residents and evacuated both bodies to Nabire for autopsy to\nconfirm the victims\u2019 identities.<\/p>\n<p>When asked whether any firearms were missing, the Nabire Police Chief\nsaid he could not yet confirm as the matter was still under\ninvestigation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is certain is that approximately 100 gold prospectors in the\nLegari area of Nabire have been evacuated to Legari for their safety,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the XVII Cenderawasih Military\nCommand, Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Tri Purwanto, said his office was\nstill awaiting the autopsy results for the victims of the KKB attack in\nNabire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot yet confirm whether the victims are members of the\nIndonesian Army or not, as we are still awaiting the autopsy results,\u201d\nsaid Lieutenant Colonel Tri Purwanto.<\/p>\n<p>Tri stated that his office had received reports regarding the attack\ncarried out by the KKB.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLaw enforcement authorities have visited the scene and confirmed\nthat the security situation in the area is conducive and safe.
