Architect Awards planned<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Architects Association will
\npresent architecture awards to distinguished buildings in
\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
Gregorius Antar, chairman of the awards committee, said
\nyesterday that the association has so accepted the names of 40
\nbuildings to be judged and expects to register more architectural
\nworks until Aug. 31.<\/p>\n
The association will judge a number of architectural works
\nwhich fall into five categories -- residential buildings,
\ncommercial and public buildings, institution buildings, old and
\npreserved buildings and urban\/rural planning designs.<\/p>\n
The judgment of government-owned buildings will be conducted
\njointly by the association in cooperation with the Ministry of
\nPublic Works.<\/p>\n
Antar said that the awards are given to encourage the
\ndevelopment of architecture in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
The awards, he said, are given to architectural works that
\napply innovative construction and design methods, extensively
\nexplore traditional architecture and upgrade the quality of
\npublic space.<\/p>\n
For this year's awards the association has appointed Yuswadi
\nSaliya, Iman Sudibyo, Endi Subiyono, Budi A.Sukada and Irianto as
\njudges, Antar explained.<\/p>\n
The Architecture Awards have been held by the association
\nsince l974. Among awarded buildings are Nusa Dua Hotel in Bali,
\nthe Gedono Monastery in Salatiga, Central Java, designed by
\nCatholic priest and architect Y.B. Mangunwijaya and Darwis
\nKhudori, the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta designed by Tetra
\nHendra and a factory in Malang, East Java, designed by Zou Fu
