        "content": "<p>Architect Awards planned<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Architects Association will<br>\npresent architecture awards to distinguished buildings in<br>\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n<p>Gregorius Antar, chairman of the awards committee, said<br>\nyesterday that the association has so accepted the names of 40<br>\nbuildings to be judged and expects to register more architectural<br>\nworks until Aug. 31.<\/p>\n<p>The association will judge a number of architectural works<br>\nwhich fall into five categories -- residential buildings,<br>\ncommercial and public buildings, institution buildings, old and<br>\npreserved buildings and urban\/rural planning designs.<\/p>\n<p>The judgment of government-owned buildings will be conducted<br>\njointly by the association in cooperation with the Ministry of<br>\nPublic Works.<\/p>\n<p>Antar said that the awards are given to encourage the<br>\ndevelopment of architecture in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>The awards, he said, are given to architectural works that<br>\napply innovative construction and design methods, extensively<br>\nexplore traditional architecture and upgrade the quality of<br>\npublic space.<\/p>\n<p>For this year&apos;s awards the association has appointed Yuswadi<br>\nSaliya, Iman Sudibyo, Endi Subiyono, Budi A.Sukada and Irianto as<br>\njudges, Antar explained.<\/p>\n<p>The Architecture Awards have been held by the association<br>\nsince l974. Among awarded buildings are Nusa Dua Hotel in Bali,<br>\nthe Gedono Monastery in Salatiga, Central Java, designed by<br>\nCatholic priest and architect Y.B. Mangunwijaya and Darwis<br>\nKhudori, the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta designed by Tetra<br>\nHendra and a factory in Malang, East Java, designed by Zou Fu<br>\nYuan\/Skala Selaras. (raw)<\/p>",
