Archers' training off target<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The female archery squad's discord is only a
\nmisperception between the archers and their coach, according to
\nthe SEA Games team archery training director.<\/p>\n
Udi Harsono said Monday the dispute had arisen because the
\narchers' training programs were inconsistent.<\/p>\n
"The archers even see there is no standardization of training
\nprograms at all. They wanted clarification on this matter," Udi
\nsaid after meeting Wismoyo Arismunandar, the chairman of the
\nNational Sports Council.<\/p>\n
Udi said the problems began when five archers sent a letter to
\nthe Indonesian Archery Association saying they did not want to be
\ncoached by Donald Pandiangan.<\/p>\n
The archers said Donald was too demanding and did not
\ncommunicate during training at Cinere, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Yuliasih, Purnaman Pandiangan, Dahliana, Lucia Elizabeth and
\nDwi Novita signed the letter.<\/p>\n
Donald has not attended training since.<\/p>\n
Udi said that he was seeking a compromise to solve the dispute
\nby combining the archers' ideas with the coach's program.<\/p>\n
"We will try to find a solution to the conflict in a
\npersuasive manner. I will give Donald a chance to give his point
\nof view," Udi said.<\/p>\n
With Donald absent from training, Daniel Lumesil has taken
\nover as coach.<\/p>\n
Udi said that, although there were still problems, training
\nwould go ahead as planned. "We will hold a meeting with the
\nassociation and find a way to solve the conflict."<\/p>\n
Wismoyo asked that the problems be solved quickly so that the
\ntraining program would not be disrupted.<\/p>\n
The female archers are favorites for gold medals at the SEA
\nGames in October. In the 1995 Games in Chiang Mai, Thailand, the
\nfemale archers grabbed two gold medals. (lnt)<\/p>",
