Archeological forum, expo held<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The World Archeological Wonders International
\nConference and Exhibition opened on Sunday at Borobudur Temple in
\nYogyakarta. The opening was attended by scholars, heritage site
\nmanagers and policy makers from home and abroad.<\/p>\n
The four-day forum will focus on how heritage sites can
\nempower local communities, especially small enterprises. Other
\nactivities being organized include an intensive training program
\nfor around 1,000 peddlers, an international art competition and
\nan art bazaar and exhibition.<\/p>\n
Organizer Wiendu Nuryanti from the World of Archeological
\nWonders said in a press statement that Dawid J. de Villiers, the
\nsecretary-general of the World Tourism Organization, and Central
\nJava Governor Mardiyanto would also attend the conference.<\/p>\n
Also scheduled to address the forum are Pontjo Sutowo of the
\nIndonesian Tourism Promotion Board, presidential adviser on
\ntourism Joop Ave, Roland Silva of the International Council on
\nMonuments and Sites and Stephen Hill of the United Nations
\nEducational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).<\/p>\n
Local cultural figures such as I Made Bandem, Putu Wijaya and
\nSardono W. Kusumo are also on the list of scheduled speakers, as
\nare Michitaro Yamaoka of the Japan National Trust, Elizabeth
\nMoore of the London-based School of Oriental and African Studies
\nand Pier Giovanni Guzzo, the superintendent of Archeological
