        "content": "<p>Serang (ANTARA) - Archaeologists have discovered building structures\nand VOC bullets at Speelwijk Fort through excavation activities\nconducted by the Regional VIII Cultural Heritage Preservation Agency of\nBanten Province in Kasemen Subdistrict, Serang City, to unveil the\nhistorical veil of colonial-era remnants.<\/p>\n<p>A cultural curator from the Banten Cultural Heritage Preservation\nAgency, Adita Nofiandi, in Serang on Saturday, explained that this\nyear\u2019s excavation is a continuation project to follow up on last year\u2019s\nfindings, with research focused on the inside of the eastern side of the\nfort.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur target is to excavate the land according to the determined\nlayout. So far, the clearly visible findings are the foundation\nstructures of former buildings and intact floor structures,\u201d Adita\nstated.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to building structures, the archaeological team also\nfound various important artefacts such as fragments of foreign ceramics\nand metal objects. One of the findings that attracted attention was a\nround bullet strongly suspected to originate from the VOC era.<\/p>\n<p>Adita emphasised that the discovered building structures are planned\nto remain exposed and not covered back to complement the historical\nnarrative regarding the period and cultural patterns of that time.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, Adita also highlighted the challenges of space\nutilisation in the cultural heritage area, which is often used by local\nresidents for exercise, such as playing football, due to the scarcity of\npublic open spaces for the local community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is indeed a problem; on one side we are preserving cultural\nheritage, on the other side the community needs space for expression.\nOur hope is that the local government can facilitate sports spaces for\nresidents so that the utilisation of cultural heritage remains in\naccordance with Law No.\u00a011 of 2010,\u201d she said.<\/p>",
