PT MRT Jakarta says archaeological discoveries during construction of Phase 2A will not delay the project, with the handover of finds scheduled in line with construction progress. The 65.10 per cent-complete project is ahead of its target and includes design changes to preserve historic remains in Jakarta Kota.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) has assured the public
that archaeological discoveries during construction of Jakarta MRT Phase
2A will not affect the project’s completion target, as the handover of
finds is being coordinated with the stages of construction on site.

“The handover of archaeological finds is indeed being adjusted to the
sequence of construction progress on site,” said Indra Gunawan, Project
Management for Construction 2 at MRT Jakarta, after the handover of
archaeological finds from the Phase 2A construction project at Jakarta
Kota Station on Thursday.

Indra said the finds were being handed over in stages, in line with
construction progress. The construction schedule remains on track with
the established plan.

MRT Jakarta has engaged a team of archaeological experts to identify
and handle historical objects found during construction, particularly in
the Jakarta Kota area, which has significant historical value.

Junus Satria Atmodjo, an archaeological expert on the MRT Jakarta
Phase 2A project, said the collaboration allows infrastructure
development to proceed alongside efforts to preserve history.

“One example I mentioned earlier was when the lower structure of
another part of Batavia Fort was found. The rest had already been
damaged, so MRT changed the design. It was costly and difficult, but it
was done. Why? Because MRT respects Jakarta’s history,” Junus said.

He said collaboration between the project operator, archaeologists
and local government was needed to ensure that urban development
continued to take cultural heritage into account.

Jakarta MRT Phase 2A is an underground line linking Bundaran Hotel
Indonesia and Kota. The project is divided into two sections: Bundaran
HI–Harmoni, which is targeted for completion in 2027, and Harmoni–Kota,
targeted for completion in 2029.

As of 25 September 2026, construction progress on Jakarta MRT Phase
2A had reached 65.10 per cent, exceeding the initial target of 63.04 per
cent.

The project is being built at a cost of around Rp25.3 trillion,
funded through loans under a partnership between the Indonesian and
Japanese governments.
",
