Arab-RI relationship<\/p>\n
In reference to what was quoted by Antara and published in The
\nJakarta Post (Dec. 20, 2002, page 4) concerning Ahmed Syafii
\nMa'arif's views about diplomats from Middle Eastern countries,
\non behalf of the Arab ambassadors and heads of missions, I would
\nlike to note the following:<\/p>\n
We highly respect Syafii as an honest scholar and great leader
\nwho contributes positively in enhancing Indonesian\/Arab
\nrelations, especially the cultural aspects. However, it would
\nhave been appropriate to invite the Arab ambassadors and heads of
\nmissions to participate in the seminar at which Syafii spoke
\nabout the relationship between Indonesia and Middle Eastern
\ncountries.<\/p>\n
Regrettably, none of these envoys were invited to the seminar
\ndespite the fact that it was about \"the relationship between
\nIndonesia and Middle Eastern countries\". So they were not given
\nthe opportunity to discuss the different aspects of
\nArab\/Indonesian relations in an objective, frank and transparent
\nmanner, and to explain how deep and comprehensive those relations
\nare.<\/p>\n
With due respect to the views expressed by Syafii, we consider
\nthem to be subjective and do not reflect the realities of
\nIndonesian\/Arab relations.<\/p>\n
