This regulation is part of efforts to\nencourage greening through the housing sector. The plan represents the\ngovernment\u2019s support for the tree-planting movement initiated by\nproperty developers. \u201cIf I make a policy, every commercial or subsidised\nhouse must have one tree planted in front of it by the developer,\u201d said\nMinister PKP Maruarar Sirait in South Lampung, quoted on Friday\n(8\/5\/2026). Maruarar stated that the government is currently drafting\nregulations that will require developers to plant one to two trees for\neach housing unit, whether commercial or subsidised. When asked about\npossible sanctions for developers who do not implement the policy, Ara\nprioritised enforcement over punishment. \u201cNo need for sanctions, but it\nmust be implemented,\u201d she continued. She then exemplified that if the\npolicy were applied to the subsidised housing programme alone, the\nimpact could be significant for adding green spaces. \u201cIf calculated from\nthe subsidised houses with an annual quota of 350,000 units, if one tree\nis planted per house, that would be 350,000 trees,\u201d said Ara, quoted\nfrom Antara.
