Appraisal ruling to be issued soon<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The government will soon issue a ruling to lend
\nsupport to the country's growing appraisal and valuation
\nbusiness.<\/p>\n
Bambang Subianto, the director general for financial
\ninstitutions at the finance ministry, said yesterday that the
\nruling will cover professional standards and licensing procedures
\nfor local appraisers.<\/p>\n
\"The draft of the appraisal and valuation ruling has been
\nsubmitted to the finance minister for approval,\" he said at the
\nopening of a one-day seminar on property investment and
\nvaluation.<\/p>\n
The seminar, co-sponsored by the Indonesian Society of
\nAppraisers, the Association of Appraising Companies and the
\nstate-owned Bank Tabungan Negara, featured Austin J. Jaffe, the
\nresearch director for real estate studies at Pennsylvania State
\nUniversity, as speaker.<\/p>\n
Bambang said that the planned issuance is part of the
\ngovernment program to provide a healthier climate in the
\ncountry's growing appraisal and valuation business.<\/p>\n
\"We hope the regulation will not only create fair competition
\nbut also improve appraisers' professionalism,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Karsono Surjowibowo, the chairman of the Indonesian Society of
\nAppraisers, said that his organization is also preparing a code
\nof ethics and a number of cooperation programs with such
\ngovernment agencies as the Capital Market Supervisory Agency
\n(Bapepam) and several state banks.<\/p>\n
Asset assessments related to lending proposals to state-owned
\nbanks and to capital market activities should, he said, be
\nhandled by the society's registered members.(hen)<\/p>",
