An elderly man has had a hard time processing his Indonesian
\ncitizenship document.<\/p>\n
In 1996, the government facilitated the application for
\nIndonesian citizenship for those foreign nationals who have lived
\nin this country throughout their life, but they would still have
\nto complete the necessary documents.<\/p>\n
The man registered at the Central Jakarta Mayoralty Office in
\nTanah Abang, has heard nothing so far of what would happen to his
\napplication for Indonesian citizenship.<\/p>\n
Instead, it was said that applicants who were not called to
\nthe mayoralty were advised to report to the court in Jl. Gajah
\nMada. The man went to the court as advised and was helped by a
\nmember of staff named Siswo Pramono. The employee examined the
\ndocument and told the old man that his application lacked the
\nnecessary papers but was not specific. The staff member asked for
\nmoney to process the papers.<\/p>\n
My questions are: 1) What should applicants do if they are not
\ncalled to the mayoralty office? 2) Why should this poor old man
\nbe burdened with an additional fee?<\/p>\n
