Apple\u2019s domestic investment in Batam, Indonesia, to build an AirTag\nfactory will continue despite the ongoing United States tariff war,\naccording to the Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industries\n(BKPM).<\/p>\n
Speaking through the Ministry\u2019s Deputy for Promotion, Nurul Ichwan,\nApple has already purchased land in Batam for the construction of an\nAirTag factory.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy assumption is that it will likely have an impact regarding US\ntariffs. But, knowing that this is also an American company, they\ncertainly will not stand idle on this matter. If American companies are\ncompeting in markets outside the US, they may not have the ability to\ninfluence their own government,\u201d said Nurul Ichwan at the Ministry of\nInvestment and Downstream Industries\/BKPM office on Wednesday (23 April\n2025).<\/p>\n
He revealed that Apple\u2019s market extends well beyond the US, with\nnumerous countries serving as trade destinations for the company.\nHowever, Nurul was unable to confirm when the Apple factory in Indonesia\nwould begin construction. What is certain, he said, is that Apple has\nalready acquired land for the AirTag factory development.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey will build there \u2014 if they have already purchased the land,\nthere is no way they will not invest,\u201d he affirmed.<\/p>\n
It should be noted that during a previous meeting between Minister of\nInvestment and Downstream Industries\/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani and\nApple representatives, Rosan revealed that Apple had made a full\ncommitment to the first phase of AirTag production worth US$1\nmillion.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is just the first stage. I am confident it will grow. I am sure\nthese vendors will increase,\u201d said Rosan previously.<\/p>\n
He also noted that Apple\u2019s vendors in Indonesia remain far fewer\ncompared to Vietnam, and expressed confidence that there would be\nfurther development ahead.<\/p>\n
