After the appointment of the new Minister of Transportation
\nHatta Radjasa my first expectation was that there would be a very
\nmarked improvement in public transportation. But in reality, no
\nchanges have taken place.<\/p>\n
First, transportation by minivans remains in confusion, with
\nan excessive number of these vehicles on the roads due to easy
\nlicensing, so that under-capacity can be found particularly in
\nthe Greater Jakarta area.<\/p>\n
Second, traveling by train is no longer comfortable especially
\non economy-class routes. Many people still sit on train roofs
\nwhile railway cars and stations are mostly dirty, with noticeable
\nover-capacity.<\/p>\n
Third, air-conditioned and regular buses offer no convenience
\neither. Therefore, the question arises whether the minister has
\nany intention at all of creating an orderly, comfortable and
\nrapid system of public transportation.<\/p>\n
If the minister is incapable of introducing any change, it
\nwould be wise for him to resign because many other competent
\nauthorities are prepared to fill the position.<\/p>\n
