        "content": "<p>JAKARTA (ANTARA) - APPBI Chairman Alphonzus Widjaja said the current\nlong holiday is expected to support retail sector performance as it\nenters the low season following Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe long holiday during the low season is expected to boost sales\nand support retail sector performance,\u201d Widjaja told ANTARA in Jakarta\non Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the post-Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr period is the\nretail industry\u2019s low season, following the peak sales period of Eid\nal-Fitr.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe economy remains uncertain due to various factors, including\ngeopolitical issues,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Shopping centres are expected to offer various promotional programmes\nand entertainment activities to attract visitors during the long\nholiday.<\/p>\n<p>He added that shopping centres remain a preferred destination for the\npublic to spend the long holiday.<\/p>\n<p>APPBI estimates a 10 to 15 per cent increase in shopping centre\nvisitors during this long weekend compared to a regular weekend.<\/p>\n<p>However, he noted that retailers\u2019 promotional discounts are temporary\nmeasures to sustain consumer spending.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne programme to address purchasing power issues is shopping\npromotions, but they are only temporary,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConsumer purchasing power is a matter of national economy and cannot\nbe resolved by businesses alone,\u201d Widjaja said.<\/p>",
