JAKARTA \u2013 The Indonesian Forest Entrepreneurs Association (APHI) and\nglobal natural capital investment firm, New Forests, are exploring\nopportunities for strategic cooperation in sustainable forest management\nin Indonesia. This collaboration is expected to strengthen the\ndevelopment of the green economy while supporting future climate\nresilience efforts.<\/p>\n
The exploration of this partnership emerged during a meeting held in\nJakarta on Saturday (6\/6\/2026). The meeting was attended by the General\nChairman of APHI, Soewarso, alongside representatives from New Forests,\nincluding the former United States Ambassador to Indonesia, Robert O.\nBlake Jr.<\/p>\n
The dialogue focused on identifying various collaboration\nopportunities to support sustainable forest management, increase forest\narea productivity, ecosystem restoration, and the development of an\nenvironmentally friendly economy based on natural resources.<\/p>\n
Soewarso, General Chairman of APHI, emphasised that the forestry\nsector plays a strategic role in supporting national economic growth\nwhile maintaining environmental sustainability. Consequently, APHI\ncontinues to encourage the strengthening of partnerships with various\nstakeholders, both nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n
He noted that APHI is open to various forms of investment capable of\nstrengthening sustainable forest management, increasing area\nproductivity, driving ecosystem restoration, and providing economic and\nsocial benefits to communities living near forests. \u201cThe development of\ninnovative financing is one of the keys to driving sustainable forestry\ninvestment while supporting the achievement of national greenhouse gas\nemission reduction targets,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Robert O. Blake Jr.\u00a0expressed appreciation for the\ndevelopment of Indonesia\u2019s forestry sector, which continues to\ndemonstrate a commitment to sustainable natural resource management. He\nobserved that Indonesia possesses great potential in developing\nnature-based solutions and forest management that attract global\ninvestors.<\/p>\n
According to Blake, there are numerous opportunities to strengthen\npartnerships between businesses, investors, the government, and the\ncommunity to create development that provides economic benefits while\npreserving the environment. \u201cConstructive dialogue among stakeholders is\na vital factor in building trust and opening wider investment\nopportunities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, Sanjiv Louis, Director of Investments (Asia) at\nNew Forests, assessed that Indonesia has significant opportunities to\nstrengthen sustainable forest and landscape management through\ncollaboration between the government, private sector, financial\ninstitutions, and the community. He emphasised the importance of natural\nresource management that balances economic, social, and environmental\naspects as the foundation for green economic growth and future climate\nresilience.<\/p>\n
He noted that the development of various sustainable forest and\nland-use management initiatives will provide long-term positive impacts\non the environment while increasing community welfare.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, APHI and New Forests also agreed to continue\nstrengthening communication and information exchange to identify various\ncollaboration opportunities.
