        "content": "<p>APEC&apos;s Internet program<\/p>\n<p>TOKYO (AFP): Japan&apos;s post and telecommunications ministry<br>\nannounced yesterday an agreement with Australia, Canada,<br>\nMalaysia, Singapore and the United States to promote<br>\ninternational interconnections on the Internet.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry said the accord was part of a trial project for<br>\nnext-generation electronic commerce approved by the Asia-Pacific<br>\nEconomic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Shanghai in September last<br>\nyear, adding that it planned to make a similar proposal at a<br>\nGroup of Seven meeting in Rome in October.<\/p>\n<p>Under the agreement reached by the APEC telecommunications<br>\nworking group in Tapei last week, basic plans will be<br>\nconsolidated by the end of this month, the ministry said.<\/p>\n<p>About 100 Japanese companies, including banks, machinery<br>\nmanufacturers and telecommunications carriers, are taking part in<br>\nthe trial project which aims to iron out communications and<br>\nsecurity problems with electronic commerce.<\/p>",
