        "content": "<p>APEC recognizes RI accreditation body<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The Pacific Cooperation Council (PAC), an<br>\naccreditation body established by APEC member countries, will<br>\nformally recognize certification and accreditation issued by the<br>\nIndonesian standardization board.<\/p>\n<p>The chief of the National Standardization Agency, Herudi<br>\nKartowisastro, said recognition was agreed upon in the signing of<br>\na multilateral agreement at a PAC meeting in Bali on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>He said that with the signing of the agreement, all APEC<br>\nmembers would recognize certification and accreditation issued by<br>\nthe Indonesian agency.<\/p>\n<p>\"The recognition means that the agency has successfully passed<br>\npeer evaluation and fulfills international standards,\" he said in<br>\na statement.<\/p>\n<p>Herudi said that Indonesia and Thailand, which also signed the<br>\nagreement on Thursday, were the eighth and ninth countries<br>\nrespectively to sign such an agreement, which were first<br>\nintroduced three years ago.<\/p>\n<p>The first countries to sign agreements were Australia, Canada,<br>\nChina and Japan, in January 1998, followed by Malaysia and<br>\nSingapore in November 1998 and South Korea in July 1999, he said.<\/p>\n<p>PAC, established in 1993, is a regional cooperation forum<br>\nbetween accreditation bodies in APEC countries. Its members<br>\ncomprise 19 accreditation bodies in the Asia Pacific.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting in Bali was attended by 50 delegations as well as<br>\nobservers from the United States, Germany and the Association of<br>\nSouth East Asian Nation's (ASEAN) secretariat.
