APEC businessmen to discuss free trade<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Representatives of the private sectors of the
\nAsia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, grouped in the
\nAsia Pacific Business Network (APB-Net), will meet in Osaka,
\nJapan, next week to discuss free trade issues.<\/p>\n
Aminuddin, an Indonesian delegate of APB-Net, said in a
\nstatement here yesterday that the APEC private sectors will meet
\non June 2 to prepare for an APB-Net congress scheduled for
\nOctober 22 in Osaka.<\/p>\n
The leaders of APEC are scheduled to attend a summit in Osaka
\nin November. Their last summit, held in Bogor, West Java, last
\nyear produced a resolution aiming for the creation of the world's
\nlargest free trade area by 2020.<\/p>\n
"It is our hope that the next APB-Net congress and the next
\nAPEC summit will lead to the creation of a blueprint for trade
\nliberalization, as well as a clear framework for the cooperation
\nof private sectors," said Aminuddin, who is also the chair of
\nforeign relations committee of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce
\nand Industry.<\/p>\n
Aminuddin said that the Indonesian delegation included
\neconomist Dorodjatun Kuntjoro-Jakti and former legislator Marzuki
\nDarusman.<\/p>\n
APEC groups the United States, Japan, Australia, Canada,
\nChina, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines,
\nBrunei, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Mexico, Chile, Taiwan,
