ANZ starts emerging markets fund<\/p>\n
LONDON (Reuter): ANZ Investment Bank said on Monday it had
\nlaunched a new emerging market's local currency debt fund.<\/p>\n
It said the open-ended fund, ANZ Local Currency Debt
\nPortfolio, was targeted at institutions and sophisticated
\ninvestors globally and would invest in a cross-section of
\ncountries, including Mexico, South Africa, Indonesia and
\nBulgaria.<\/p>\n
"Emerging markets debt is an increasingly important asset
\nclass, offering investors the combination of returns frequently
\nin excess of those available in the developed market together
\nwith a high degree of portfolio diversification," it said.<\/p>\n
It said local currency debt had provided some of the most
\nattractive returns in emerging markets debt.<\/p>\n
In Russia in 1996, treasury bills produced triple digit yields
\nand Ukraine yielded over 75 percent while both had relatively
\nstable currencies, it said.<\/p>\n
The fund is being launched by ANZ's Emerging Markets Fund
\nManagement, which currently has $500 million under management.
\nThe minimum investment is $25,000 with an annual fee of 1.5
\npercent of NAV payable quarterly.<\/p>\n
It said an indicative portfolio may also include Brazil,
\nColombia, Ecuador, Egypt, India, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Kenya,
\nLebanon, Lithuania, Nigeria, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, Venezuela
\nand Zimbabwe.<\/p>",
