        "content": "<p>Anwar's wife testifies at trial<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (AP): The wife of jailed politician Anwar Ibrahim<br>\ntestified on Friday that she had seen a confidential government<br>\ndocument on a high-level political conspiracy against her<br>\nhusband, the ousted deputy prime minister.<\/p>\n<p>Azizah Ismail, who now leads the political reform campaign her<br>\nhusband started, said Anwar -- accused of corruption and sexual<br>\nmisdeeds -- showed her a police report in 1997 about the<br>\nexistence of a plot to destroy him.<\/p>\n<p>The police report was mentioned in testimony by the former<br>\nchief of police intelligence in November. But it was never<br>\ndiscussed in the trial because the judge ruled that Anwar could<br>\nnot use the alleged political conspiracy as a defense.<\/p>\n<p>Anwar was arrested on Sept. 20 and beaten by Malaysia's ex-<br>\npolice chief Abdul Rahim Noor while blindfolded and handcuffed in<br>\na jail cell.<\/p>",
