        "content": "<p>Anwar's lawyers make final plea<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Defense lawyers on Monday began their<br>\nfinal submissions on why Malaysia's ex-deputy premier Anwar<br>\nIbrahim should be acquitted of sodomy, saying fellow ministers<br>\nhad fabricated evidence against him.<\/p>\n<p>\"It is beyond dispute that there was a high-level conspiracy<br>\nby certain people to topple (Anwar) by procuring and using<br>\nfabricated evidence,\" Christopher Fernando told trial Judge<br>\nArifin Jaka.<\/p>\n<p>He said the conspiracy to topple Anwar from his post and the<br>\nprocuring of fabricated evidence \"went hand in hand.\"<\/p>\n<p>There were numerous instances of disagreements between Anwar<br>\nand Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad over contracts, projects,<br>\nbailouts for Mahathir's children and compensation for cronies,<br>\nFernando said. \"There was decidedly bad blood between (Anwar) and<br>\nthe prime minister.\"<\/p>",
