        "content": "<p>Anwar expects early return to jail<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters): Malaysia's former finance minister<br>\nAnwar Ibrahim expects to be sent back to jail from hospital this<br>\nweek after refusing spinal surgery on terms set by the<br>\ngovernment, his lawyer said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Anwar, the former deputy-turned-rival of Prime Minister<br>\nMahathir Mohamad, is serving a 15-year sentence for crimes he<br>\ndenies and has been holding out for surgery in Germany for a<br>\nslipped disc.<\/p>\n<p>He has been at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital since late November<br>\nafter being moved there from the Sungai Buloh prison when he<br>\ncomplained of back pains.<\/p>\n<p>The government has refused to let Anwar, whom the United<br>\nStates calls a political prisoner, travel abroad. It has told him<br>\nto undergo surgery at the hospital or return to prison for<br>\nconservative treatment, meaning physiotherapy and painkillers.<\/p>",
