Anwar bids to strike out case<\/p>\n
KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters): Jailed former finance minister Anwar
\nIbrahim said on Wednesday that government prosecutors had used
\nquestionable tactics to try to convict him, and urged a judge to
\nthrow out a sodomy case he faces.<\/p>\n
In an affidavit filed by his lawyers, Anwar said Malaysian
\ngovernment prosecutors had gone out of their way, after he was
\nsacked in September, to put him behind bars, acting
\nunprofessionally and showing bad faith.<\/p>\n
Anwar and co-defendant Sukma Darmawan, facing charges of
\nsodomizing the Anwar family's former driver, filed motions asking
\nHigh Court Judge Ariffin Jaka to strike out the case. The judge
\nsaid he would take up the issue on Friday.<\/p>\n
Anwar, once a step away from the highest political post in the
\nnation, was sentenced to six years in jail in April on four
\ncorruption charges. Unless he wins his appeal, the prison
\nsentence will keep him out of public office until 2008.<\/p>",
