Antithuggery team established<\/p>\n
YOGYAKARTA: In response to a concerning rise in violent crimes in
\nthe city, the Yogyakarta City Police have formed a special
\nantithuggery team to deal with the problem.<\/p>\n
Comprising over 50 police officers from the Buser (mobile
\ndetective unit) team and the violence and crime eradication team,
\nthe antithuggery unit will be armed with special strategies and
\nways of dealing with thugs.<\/p>\n
"Of course we will not reveal the strategies. It's a secret,"
\nhead of the Investigation and Crime Unit at the Yogyakarta City
\nPolice, Comm. Rudi Hartono, said early this week.<\/p>\n
Rudi said violent crime in the city had reached alarming
\nlevels. Groups of preman (thugs), he said, were committing
\nviolence and extortion in the open.<\/p>\n
"What is even more concerning is that they don't just attack
\nordinary people. Many security people are attacked as well," Rudi
\nsaid, expressing hope that the establishment of the special team
\nwould significantly reduce crime in the city.<\/p>\n
"We have listed all of the suspected thugs. We will be ready
\nto take action by the middle of this month," Rudi said. -- JP<\/p>",
