Gowa, South Sulawesi \u2014 A joint police team has secured four boxes\ncontaining alleged important documents related to suspected illegal\nlevies (pungli) and gratification in the processing of Building Approval\n(PBG) and Certificates of Functional Suitability (SLF) in Gowa Regency,\nSouth Sulawesi.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday, we conducted a series of investigative processes regarding\nalleged corruption crimes related to the PBG licensing process and other\npermits,\u201d stated Brigadier General Pol Hernowo Yulianto, Investigator of\nthe Major Corruption Crimes Division (Kortas Tipidkor) of the Indonesian\nNational Police, at the Gowa Regent\u2019s official residence on Monday night\n(21\/9).<\/p>\n
As part of the deepening investigation, a joint team comprising the\nAnti-Corruption Crimes Division of the National Police Headquarters, the\nCorruption Crime Unit of the South Sulawesi Regional Police, and the\nCorruption Crime Unit of the Gowa City Police conducted searches at the\nGowa Regent\u2019s Office and the official residence.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of the investigative processes we conducted today was a search.\nThe purpose of this search is to find evidence to clarify this criminal\nact. The evidence we are seeking is, of course, evidence related to\ncorruption. Therefore, what we secured tonight includes documentary\nevidence and several pieces of electronic evidence,\u201d he told members of\nthe press.<\/p>\n
From the results of the search, a total of four plastic boxes\ncontaining documents suspected to be related to the handling of the case\nwere seized by the police. Three boxes were taken from the Gowa Regent\u2019s\nOffice and one box from the Regent\u2019s official residence. The searches at\nthe two locations commenced at 15:57 WITA.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe conducted searches at only two locations today: first, the\nRegent\u2019s Office, including the general affairs office, and second, here\nat the Regent\u2019s official residence,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The former Sub-Director of Corruption Crimes at the National Police\nCriminal Investigation Agency stated that the search was carried out by\na joint team from the National Police Headquarters and the South\nSulawesi Regional Police. During the search of the two locations, the\nRegent of Gowa, Sitti Husniah Talenrang, was not present.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the first time the joint team from the Headquarters and the\nRegional Police has conducted such a search. The Regent was not\npresent,\u201d said the former Director of General Criminal Investigation of\nthe Riau Islands Regional Police.<\/p>\n
Regarding the searches at the two locations, Hernowo emphasised that\nthe police had prepared warrants and followed all regulations, including\ncourt permits.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe we are fully equipped with warrants issued by the court.\nThis was communicated to those present at the search locations. Any room\nrelated to this matter, including those in the official residence, was\nsubject to the search,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Gowa Police Chief, Kombes Pol Muh Yusuf Usman, stated that the\nsearches of the two government-owned locations were carried out entirely\nby the National Police Anti-Corruption Unit and the South Sulawesi\nRegional Police Corruption Crime Unit, while the Gowa City Police\nassisted in securing the locations, as the case has been handed\nover.<\/p>\n
A day earlier, Sunday (20\/9), investigators from the South Sulawesi\nRegional Police seized a Toyota Hiace vehicle in Doja Hamlet, Tangke\nBajeng Village, Bajeng District, Gowa Regency. The vehicle was using two\ndifferent licence plates: DD 7010 HT (black lettering) and DD 1 SRA (red\nlettering). The seizure was part of the investigation\u2019s development\nbased on statements from several witnesses who had been\ninterrogated.<\/p>\n
In this case, investigators previously named the former Head of the\nGowa Housing and Settlement Department, Abdullah Sirajuddin, as a\nsuspect and have placed him in detention.
