        "content": "<p>Anti-AIDS drive in Tarakan<\/p>\n<p>TARAKAN, East Kalimantan: Health officials in charge of<br>\ncurbing the spread of HIV are intensifying their activities on<br>\nTarakan island.<\/p>\n<p>They said the island, which borders Malaysia, is especially<br>\nvulnerable to the spread of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus<br>\n(HIV) because it is a gateway for foreign visitors into the<br>\neastern provinces.<\/p>\n<p>\"Tarakan is a major transit point for people from Malaysia,<br>\nSingapore, the Philippines, Thailand and Pakistan,\" said Asli<br>\nAmien who chairs the East Kalimantan's government AIDS squad.<\/p>\n<p>Among the various measures the government has taken is the<br>\nsetting up of a center where people can have their blood tested<br>\nfor HIV, Antara reported.<\/p>\n<p>There has been one reported AIDS case in East Kalimantan,<br>\nwhere, he said, condoms are rarely used in red light districts.<br>\n(pan)<\/p>",
