Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - The President Director of Perum LKBN ANTARA,\nBenny Siga Butarbutar, has stated that the Aceh Tsunami Museum serves as\na reminder, a lesson and a hope for creating a sound system to reduce\npotential risks and ensure preparedness in facing disasters.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor me, the Aceh Tsunami Museum is a reminder that disasters will\nalways occur, especially as Indonesia lies within the Ring of Fire. And\nthis reminds us to always be prepared,\u201d said Benny Siga Butarbutar in\nBanda Aceh on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The statement was made by Benny after visiting the Aceh Tsunami\nMuseum together with ANTARA Corporate Secretary Sella Gareta and General\nManager of Human Resources Arif Mujayatno, accompanied by Aceh Bureau\nChief Febrianto Budi Anggoro and other staff in Banda Aceh.<\/p>\n
Benny explained that the Tsunami Museum is a reminder that humanity\ncannot be separated from disasters. Moreover, many stories in the museum\nremind us that nature itself actually provides preparedness for facing\ndisasters, but this is not studied.<\/p>\n
\u201cNature gives us a reminder, and we ignore it. So we need to learn,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n
\u201cTherefore, it is important for this to become a lesson. Build a\nsystem, build an ecosystem that can reduce or mitigate disasters,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>\n
Looking at the Aceh Tsunami Museum, Benny continued, there is a hope\nthat better steps must be created in efforts to mitigate disasters,\nwhether through information systems, earthquake-resistant buildings and\nother measures.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, he sees the presence of the Aceh Tsunami Museum as\nalso presenting a new icon in Tanah Rencong, in addition to the\nBaiturrahman Grand Mosque in Banda Aceh.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we compare this with Japan, which has a disaster museum in Kobe,\nthat also serves as a reminder, a lesson and a hope that humanity must\ncooperate within a global scope to mitigate and build cooperation in\novercoming disasters,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n
For example, he added, ANTARA is building a narrative of disaster\nmitigation based on local wisdom, such as that practised by communities\nin the Simeulue Islands, Aceh.<\/p>\n
There, the people of Simeulue Regency often chant the Smong (tsunami)\nverses on various occasions, and these become lullabies for children.\nThis culture has since become one of the community\u2019s disaster mitigation\nmeasures. As a result, during the 2004 tsunami, despite the enormous\nwaves, only seven lives were lost there.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is a system, there are stories and songs that warn us about\ndisasters. That is where ANTARA builds and designs information that\nbecomes knowledge, and then provides warnings to the world, the public\nand the government so they can make decisions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In other words, Benny added, ANTARA does not merely provide\ninformation, but also builds an information ecosystem for the public and\nthe government so they can make quick and sound decisions when disasters\noccur.<\/p>\n
