Antam's new refinery method<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Publicly listed state mining company Aneka
\nTambang is trying a new method of gold smelting and refining at
\nits Logam Mulia smelter and refinery to improve efficiency, the
\ncompany said.<\/p>\n
Company operation director Harsojo Dihardjo said Tuesday the
\nnew method, called chlorination -- in which chlorine is used to
\nseparate gold from other metals, mainly silver -- would enable
\nthe facilities located in Pulo Gadung, East Jakarta, to speed up
\nits refining process, reduce working capital and increase
\nrecovery.<\/p>\n
He said Aneka Tambang had hired Australia's Western Australian
\nMint Company to consult on the application of the new method.<\/p>\n
"The chlorination is now in the commissioning stage," Harsojo
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Harsojo said Aneka Tambang had also hired Morgan Worldwide
\nMining Consultants of the United States from early this year to
\nconsult the company on the application of a world-class security
\nsystem at Logam Mulia.<\/p>\n
"People now have to follow very strict rules to enter our
\nfacilities," he said.<\/p>\n
Logam Mulia has an annual production capacity of 60 tons of
\ngold and 270 tons of silver. (jsk)<\/p>",
