Antam goes ahead expansion project<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): State-controlled, publicly listed gold and
\nnickel miner PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) said yesterday it would
\nproceed with its ferronickel expansion project in Pomalaa,
\nSoutheast Sulawesi, despite the crisis.<\/p>\n
The company said in a statement that it had appointed United
\nBank of Switzerland's Warburg Dillon Read as its financial
\nadvisor on the best available financing alternatives for the
\nproject.<\/p>\n
It has also invited six contractors to bid for a contract to
\nexpand the facilities at its Pomalaa III ferronickel plant.<\/p>\n
Although it did not name the contractors, it said the
\ninvitation for tender was for the engineering, procurement and
\nconstruction of the project.<\/p>\n
The contract is expected to be completed in 2000 and
\ncommissioned in 2001.<\/p>\n
The plant is expected to increase the company's ferronickel
\nproduction capacity to 24,000 metric tons per annum from the
\ncurrent 11,000 metric tons.<\/p>\n
Ferronickel is a refined premium nickel alloy used in the
\nmanufacture of stainless steel. (rid)<\/p>",
