PT ANTAM (Persero) Tbk (ANTM) has revealed the latest developments\nregarding two strategic integrated nickel downstreaming projects,\nprimarily aimed at strengthening the electric vehicle (EV) battery\necosystem in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
These two projects are the Dragon Project, developed within the PT\nSumberdaya Arindo area, and the Titan Project, located within the PT\nNusakarya Arindo area in North Maluku.<\/p>\n
ANTAM President Director Untung Budiharto stated that the development\nof both projects is part of the company\u2019s strategy to build an\nintegrated EV battery ecosystem, from upstream to downstream. \u201cThe\ndownstream project that is the focus on this occasion is the electric\nvehicle battery ecosystem, which is integrated from ore mining,\nprocessing through RKEF and HPAL facilities, to the development of\nbattery materials such as precursors, cathodes, and battery cells,\u201d\nUntung said during a hearing with Commission XII of the Indonesian House\nof Representatives (DPR RI), as reported on Wednesday (16\/09\/2026).<\/p>\n
The Dragon Project involves the division of six main joint ventures\n(JV) from upstream to downstream between a consortium consisting of CATL\n(via Ningbo Contemporary Brunp Lygend Co.\u00a0Ltd.\u00a0(CBL)), PT ANTAM\n(Persero) Tbk (ANTM), and Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC).<\/p>\n
In JV1, which covers mining operations, ANTAM is currently entering\nthe construction development stage in the North Sangaji area.\nSubsequently, in JV2, which covers the processing side, the company is\nentering the construction stage for the development of Rotary Kiln\nElectric Furnace (RKEF) facilities and an industrial estate.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, for JV3, which involves the construction of High Pressure\nAcid Leach (HPAL) facilities, ANTAM has completed the Final Investment\nDecision (FID) stage. This stage will be followed by the investment\nprocess. For JV4, development is directed towards battery materials; the\nprocess is currently in the feasibility study and FID preparation\nstage.<\/p>\n
On the downstream side through JV5, construction progress of the\nfactory in Karawang continues, and ANTAM is awaiting the official\ninauguration of the battery cell factory. Next, for JV6, which covers\nblack mass processing, ANTAM is still in the joint venture formation\nstage. \u201cOverall, this progress shows that the development of ANTAM\u2019s\nbattery ecosystem is proceeding in a parallel and integrated manner,\u201d\nsaid Untung.<\/p>\n
In addition to the Dragon Project, ANTAM is also developing the Titan\nProject in the PT Nusakarya Arindo area, North Maluku. Untung noted that\nthe Titan Project has entered the Joint Feasibility Study (JFS) stage.\nThis study will serve as a basis for the company and its partners in\ndetermining investment decisions in the next stage.<\/p>\n
\u201cCurrently, the Titan Project has entered the Joint Feasibility Study\nstage as a basis for future investment decisions. Overall, this project\nis expected to strengthen the integration of the battery ecosystem while\ncomplementing the development currently being implemented in the Dragon\nProject,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
