        "content": "<p>Another round of China-Japan talks scheduled to solve trade dispute<\/p>\n<p>Agence France-Presse, Beijing<\/p>\n<p>China and Japan are to begin yet another round of talks in an<br>\nattempt to solve a dragging eight-month long trade dispute,<br>\nofficials from both countries said Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The negotiations in Tokyo on Wednesday will come only two days<br>\nbefore Japan is due to decide whether the temporary import<br>\nrestrictions on Chinese farming goods which sparked the row<br>\nshould be extended.<\/p>\n<p>China's vice minister at the Ministry of Foreign Trade and<br>\nEconomic Cooperation (MOFTEC), Sun Zhen Yu, will head a Chinese<br>\ndelegation to take part in the talks, a MOFTEC official said.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting follows talks last week in Beijing between China's<br>\nminister for Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Shi<br>\nGuangsheng -- who is not attending the new talks -- and his<br>\nJapanese counterpart Takeo Hiranuma and Agriculture, Forestry and<br>\nFisheries Minister Tsutomu Takebe.<\/p>\n<p>\"There was an interesting exchange of ideas (at last week's<br>\nmeeting) and we are trying to build on that,\" a Japanese embassy<br>\nofficial in Beijing said.<\/p>\n<p>The tit-for-tat dispute began in April when Japan slapped 200-<br>\nday import restrictions on three farm imports -- spring onions,<br>\nshiitake mushrooms and rushes used to make traditional Japanese<br>\ntatami mats -- mostly imported from China.<\/p>\n<p>China retaliated in June by imposing 100 percent punitive<br>\ntariffs on imports of Japanese motor vehicles, air conditioners<br>\nand mobile phones.<\/p>\n<p>Japan, which said cheap imports of the three agricultural<br>\nproducts were harming its farmers, must decide by Friday whether<br>\nto impose four-year safeguard measures on the products.<\/p>\n<p>Tokyo insists the import restrictions are in line with the<br>\nrules of the World Trade Organization, which China officially<br>\njoined on Dec. 11 after 15 years of negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>Both countries said Tuesday they remained hopeful of reaching<br>\na settlement.<\/p>\n<p>\"The two sides have both expressed their hope that the trade<br>\ndispute will be settled through bilateral talks,\" the MOFTEC<br>\nofficial said.<\/p>\n<p>The Japanese official said: \"Both China and Japan believe we<br>\nshould take care of this issue through negotiation.\"<\/p>\n<p>Neither were able to say how long the talks would last.<\/p>",
