Another deregulation step<\/p>\n
The government has announced new deregulation measures that
\nare designed to improve Indonesia's competitive stance in the
\nmidst of the tide of globalization. This is to answer the
\nchallenge of consistently implementing the WTO, AFTA and APEC
\nagreements.<\/p>\n
Among the most noteworthy points are the steps that are being
\ntaken to facilitate exports. The requirements and procedures for
\nobtaining certificates of origin for goods will be eased and the
\ninspection requirement for goods destined for export will be
\nwaived.<\/p>\n
It is hoped these and other measures will make our export
\nproducts more competitive and thus have a positive impact on our
\nbalance of payments. Nevertheless, it must be borne in mind that
\nboosting the quality of export goods is not an easy task. For
\nthat reason, any deregulation measure which lacks the drive and
\nreadiness of the officials directly involved in will have no
\nmeaning whatsoever.<\/p>\n
The June 1996 deregulation measures reflect the government's
\nsincerity in this matter, and, at the same time, provide some
\nfresh air and a conducive climate for investment.<\/p>\n
