Another Bank Andromeda commissioner questioned<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The National Police on Wednesday summoned
\nBambang Trihatmodjo's closest crony Yohanes Kotjo for questioning
\nin relation to an alleged scam at Bank Andromeda, of which he was
\na part-owner.<\/p>\n
As with other suspected banking criminals summoned to account
\nfor their actions, both Yohanes and the police refused to discuss
\nthe results of the five-hour questioning.<\/p>\n
Kotjo remained tightlipped after emerging from the police
\nheadquarters with his lawyer Johan Waleri.<\/p>\n
Kotjo, who in December 1995 was publicly reprimanded by the
\nStock Exchange of Singapore for creating a false market, sat on
\nAndromeda's board of commissioners together with Bambang
\nTrihatmodjo (the son of former president Soeharto), Henri
\nPribadi, Prajogo Pangestu, Peter F. Gontha, Jusran and Junanta P.
\nSyarfuan.<\/p>\n
All of the bank's commissioners with the exception of Henri
\nhave been summoned for police questioning.<\/p>\n
According to Lt. Col. Saleh Saaf from the National Police
\nInformation Service, Kotjo answered all of the 41 questions posed
\nby investigators in regard to his role in the alleged credit scam
\nwhich was run at the bank.<\/p>\n
\"Police started the questioning at 8 a.m. The session finished
\nat 1 p.m. Kotjo gave straight answers to all the questions he was
\nasked,\" the officer said.<\/p>\n
\"It was the first summons issued against him and we don't know
\nwhen he will next be brought in,\" Saleh said.<\/p>\n
According to the director of the police unit responsible for
\neconomic crimes, Col. Made Mangku Pastika, Kotjo had at first
\nbeen excluded from the list of suspects in the Bank Andromeda
\nscam.<\/p>\n
\"His status changed as a result of questioning the bank's
\nother commissioners,\" Made said.<\/p>\n
A police document addressed to the Ministry of Justice
\nrevealed the National Police have asked the directorate general
\nof immigration to ban Kotjo from leaving the country.<\/p>\n
The document, which was made available to The Jakarta Post,
\nstated that Kotjo has been prohibited from leaving Indonesian as
\na result of the alleged violation of the 1997 Banking Law and Law
\nNo. 3\/1971 on corruption.<\/p>\n
Andromeda was one of 16 banks closed down by the government
\nlast November for allegedly violated rules designed to limit
\nlending to companies in their own business group.<\/p>\n
The bank allegedly used central bank liquidity credits to
\nfinance the giant petrochemical company PT Chandra Asri and to
\npurchase Bank Alfa immediately after Andromeda was closed down.
