        "content": "<p>Bank Indonesia (BI) and the Bank of Korea have launched the\nIndonesia\u2013South Korea Cross-Border QR Payment. This allows Indonesians\nto make transactions using the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard\n(QRIS) through domestic applications without needing to exchange foreign\ncurrency.<\/p>\n<p>Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo stated that this launch is an\nimportant step in realising the shared vision of Indonesia and South\nKorea to build an integrated, efficient, and inclusive payment system as\nthe foundation for digital economic connectivity between the two\ncountries. \u201cThe connection of cross-border QR payments not only\nfacilitates transactions but also strengthens SMEs, boosts tourism, and\nopens new opportunities for the business world, thereby supporting\ninclusive and sustainable economic growth,\u201d Perry said in an official\nstatement on Wednesday, 1 April 2026.<\/p>\n<p>According to Perry, with cross-border QR, transactions can be\nconducted directly in local currencies, making them more efficient and\nlow-cost. The initiative is part of the Joint Vision Statement between\nPresident Prabowo Subianto and President Lee Jae Myung, signed in South\nKorea.<\/p>\n<p>Since its launch, Bank Indonesia has recorded 60.77 million QRIS\nusers as of February 2026. In 2025, inbound transactions by foreign\ntourists in Indonesia reached 5,892,621 transactions. This figure\nexceeded outbound transactions by Indonesians abroad, which totalled\n1,681,112 transactions.<\/p>\n<p>Besides South Korea, QRIS can also be used in several other\ncountries. As of February 2026, the collaboration with Thailand,\nestablished since August 2022, has recorded 1.64 million transactions\nworth Rp 656.27 billion. Meanwhile, the collaboration with Malaysia,\nstarted in May 2023, has recorded 10.66 million transactions worth Rp\n2.75 trillion.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the cross-border QR with Singapore, launched in November\n2023, has recorded 554,510 transactions worth Rp 179.28 billion.
