Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) has announced\nthat Stabilisasi Pasokan dan Harga Pangan (SPHP) rice will be given a\nnew name: Beras Kita. The new packaging will be launched on 20 October\n2026.<\/p>\n
Zulhas said the change coincides with a packaging refresh. The SPHP\nidentity will not be removed entirely, but will remain on the packaging\nas a description of the Food Supply and Price Stabilisation\nprogramme.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis new packaging will be launched soon. SPHP is being renamed\nBeras Kita,\u201d Zulhas said at a press conference at his office in Jakarta\non Monday (7\/9\/2026).<\/p>\n
In the new packaging, the words \u2018Beras Kita Medium\u2019 serve as the main\nidentity, dominated by white and blue. The lower part of the pack\nfeatures an illustration of rice paddies, whilst the logos of Bulog, the\nNational Food Agency and the Coordinating Ministry for Food remain at\nthe top.<\/p>\n
The SPHP text has been made smaller and placed below the Beras Kita\nname. The SPHP programme thus remains part of the product\u2019s identity,\nbut the name highlighted to consumers is Beras Kita.<\/p>\n
Zulhas said he immediately approved the design and colours of the new\npackaging.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, isn\u2019t it nice? I approved the colour straight away. I agreed\nat once \u2014 the colours are excellent, aren\u2019t they? These are the colours\nof victory,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizal explained that the name Beras\nKita was chosen to align its identity with other government food\nproducts.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy use the name Beras Kita? Because government products use the\nword \u2018kita\u2019 (our). We have Gula Manis Kita, Minyakita, and now rice is\nusing the name Beras Kita,\u201d Rizal said after the press conference.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe meaning of \u2018kita\u2019 is a prosperous Indonesian family. So Beras\nKita is rice for a prosperous Indonesian family,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Rizal confirmed that the SPHP description will remain on the new\npackaging. \u201cHowever, the words SPHP will still appear at the bottom \u2014\nStabilisasi Pasokan dan Harga Pangan \u2014 but made smaller,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to him, the packaging change is intended to make government\nrice more competitive with private products on the market.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe first aim of this change is to be able to compete with private\nproducts. With this new packaging, the appearance is more eye-catching\nand better able to compete with private products,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In addition to medium rice, there will be a Beras Kita Premium\nvariant. However, the government subsidy will only apply to medium rice\nunder the SPHP scheme.<\/p>\n
No Withdrawal of Old Stock<\/p>\n
The old SPHP packaging will continue to be used until existing stocks\nrun out. Bulog will not withdraw them abruptly from the market.<\/p>\n
\u201cStill. That\u2019s why it must be distributed as quickly as possible. So\nthat we can then start producing the new packaging like this,\u201d Rizal\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The launch of Beras Kita comes as the government decides to increase\nthe SPHP allocation by 1 million tonnes. The addition is intended to\nsafeguard supply and suppress rice prices heading into the lean\nseason.<\/p>\n
Bulog had previously requested an additional 400,000 tonnes, but the\ngovernment approved an increase of up to 1 million tonnes.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor SPHP rice, we initially requested an additional 400,000 tonnes\nto anticipate future conditions. But the government supported us with 1\nmillion tonnes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The additional allocation will be used to cover needs until early\n2027, ahead of the harvest season expected in March.<\/p>\n
To date, distribution of SPHP rice from the initial allocation of\n828,000 tonnes has reached 92%. Bulog said around 80,000 tonnes remain,\ntargeted for immediate distribution.<\/p>\n
The additional 1 million tonnes will be distributed through various\nchannels, including Rumah Pangan Kita (RPK) and the Red and White\nVillage\/Neighbourhood Cooperatives (KDKMP).<\/p>\n
