Animals at Taman Safari<\/p>\n

Taman Safari Indonesia -- located in Cisarua in the Puncak
\narea, West Java, and constructed with the objective of conserving
\nfauna and flora, especially of rare species -- should pay serious
\nattention to aspects that support the park's continued existence.<\/p>\n
I recently visited the park and found that its collection of
\nrare species of plants and animals from around the world was
\nquite impressive. There was one thing, however, that I would like
\nto comment on: the condition of the animals and their habitat.<\/p>\n
The animals in the park were languishing and tended to shy
\naway from visitors. Their habitat was not well managed and not in
\nkeeping with each of the species' needs. The fences were not even
\nwell maintained.<\/p>\n
I think that each species requires a specific habitat which
\nclosely approximates its original environment. Thus, the source
\nof its food, its biotic surroundings like plants, shrubs and
\nanimals, as well as its abiotic surroundings like water, air and
\nland should all be taken into account.<\/p>\n
It would be a good thing if the park's management started
\nrearranging the park's ecosystem by constructing living areas
\nthat more appropriately fit the needs of each of the species
\nliving there.<\/p>\n
The unsuitability of the existing living areas may well be the
\ncause of the animals' present condition of suffering. Technicians
\nin forestry, farming, veterinary science and environmental
\nbiology could form a strong support system for these proposed
\nimprovements.<\/p>\n
